PIPILOTI RIST

Swiss, b. 1962, Grabs, Switzerland, based in Zurich, Switzerland

Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist is one of the world's leading contemporary artists, acclaimed
for her innovative video installations. Working with dazzling colour, immersive aural
effects, and intimate, exploratory cinematography, she has since taken her place as
one of the most important video artists working in the medium, exploring themes of
female sexuality, mass media culture, and the essential beauty of the human body in
nature through vibrant, large-scale multimedia installations. Rist creates a total sensory
experience for her audience by showing her works within architectural installations
conceived specially for particular spaces.

Solo exhibitions have been held at Times Museum in Guangzhou, China (2013);
Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland (2012); Mannheim, Germany (2012); 
Fundació Joan Miró & Centre Cultura Caixa Girona Fontana d’Or, Barcelona / Girona, Spain (2010);
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands (2009);
MoMA, New York NY (2008) and Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2007).

She was awarded the Joan Mirò Prize in 2009 for her unique creative activity and her outstanding contribution
to the current artistic scene. Her work can be seen in collections worldwide, including
the Museum of Modern Art and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago;
Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris;
and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm.
