José Dávila works on a system of critical and analytical relations to the history of Modern and Minimalist art and their ideals. In reducing, transforming and reinterpreting iconic artworks by Donald Judd, Joseph Albers and Buckminster Fuller. The artist expresses his interest in a critical and analytical appropiation.
The dyptych Untitled directly refers to Dan Flavin’s light installations. Using large scale reproductions of Flavin’s works, Dávila cuts out the sources of light that in Flavin’s pieces caused shimmering effects. Framed between two glasses, leaving a distance between the back of the frame and the collage itself. The reproduction cast a shadow that creates a spatial effect.
