Born in 1979 in Katowice (Poland), ALICJA KWADE lives and works in Berlin (Germany). Alicja Kwade’s work investigates and questions the structures of our reality and society and reflects on the perception of time in our everyday life. Her diverse practice is based around concepts of space, time, science and philosophy, takes shape in sculptural objects, video and even photography. The artist’s works often utilize the alchemical properties of her chosen materials to reveal the nature of systems used to understand the world.
 
Alicja Kwade has been selected for taking part of Paris+ par Art Basel “Sites” program, curated by Jérôme Sans with the installation Au cours des mondes, from 19 October -13 November 2022.
 
In 2019, Kwade was commissioned to create a monumental installation for the Roof Garden of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
 
She participated in the Helsinki Biennial (2021), Desert X, Coachella Valley, California (2021), the Setouchi Triennale (2019), the 57th Venice Biennale (2017), and the 3rd Aros Triennale in Aarhus (2017). In 2022 she presented the public installation Au Cours Des Mondes, Place Vendôme, Paris, France. In 2015-2016, Public Art Fund commissioned AGAINST THE RUN, an installation in New York’s Central Park.

She has been included in group exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery, London; Madam, Luxembourg; Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; Kunsthalle Wien; Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit; and CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco.
